City of Salinas Joins the List of Enterprise Zone Supporters
The Salinas City Council unanimously voted in favor of resolution to support Enterprise Zone program
(Salinas, CA)—The Salinas City Council passed a resolution supporting the Enterprise Zone Tax Credit program. Governor Brown has threatened to eliminate the Enterprise Zone program as a part of his solution to close the $25.4 billion budget deficit.
“There are few areas of the state more distressed than the Salinas Valley, which historically and currently has unemployment and poverty rates well above state averages. The Salinas Valley Enterprise Zone has just started to stimulate job growth in the valley, and businesses are starting to take notice of its benefits,” stated Dennis Donahue, Mayor of Salinas.
The resolution, passed on Tuesday, March 1, reads in part: “…the Salinas City Council believes that the Enterprise Zone has had a significant positive effect on business activity in growth in the Salinas Valley, and….that the Salinas City Council believes that eliminating the most critical business assistance program in the state would be a huge setback to improving California’s business climate and its struggles to reach an economic recovery, and urges the state of California to support the Enterprise Zone program.”
Last month, Mayor Donahue authored an editorial in the Salinas Californian on behalf of the entire city of Salinas in support of Enterprise Zones and Redevelopment funding. Additionally, the City of Fresno and the City of Tracy took similar action in passing resolutions in support of the Enterprise Zone Tax Credit program.
